Everything You Need to Know About Laser Hair Removal at Green Dermatology & Cosmetic Center

There are many reasons people need or want to visit a dermatologist, from clinical reasons such as skin cancer and acne to cosmetic reasons like tattoo removal and Botox. There is really only one reason that surpasses them all in popularity.

And that reason is laser hair removal.

Here at Green Dermatology & Cosmetic Center, Boca dermatologist Dr. Green has state of the art technology ready to help you say goodbye to shaving, waxing and plucking and hello to smooth, touchable, hairless skin. Whether you’re looking to rid yourself of hair in one particular area or want to go hairless from head to toe, laser hair removal in Boca has become so popular for its effectiveness and relatively simple process.

Before getting in front of any laser, you may have a few questions. That is what we are here for – to ease your mind and provide you with answers you can rely on.

Here are three of the most common questions about laser hair removal that we hear at Green Dermatology & Cosmetic Center.

How can I best prepare for laser hair removal?

In order to ensure that your laser hair removal procedure is effective, avoid tweezing for at least 6 weeks before your procedure. Tweezing takes out hair from the root, and it’s the root that the laser needs to find in order to eliminate future hair growth. Ask Dr. Green for a numbing cream to ensure your comfort during the process if you are worried about any discomfort or pain.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

A common saying is no pain no gain but doesn’t worry, laser hair removal isn’t painful. It may be, at most, only temporarily uncomfortable depending on the area. In most instances, it’s nearly pain-free, and it’s also a quick procedure so any discomfort you may feel won’t last very long. After the treatment, your skin may feel sunburned or irritated for a day or two. We suggest moisturizing your skin to help it heal.

How many sessions will I need?

Everybody is different and hair grows at different cycles but for the most part, the average number of sessions for laser hair removal is about six. Before your first visit, we suggest limiting your plucking or waxing for about six weeks. The reason is that the laser beams highly concentrated light to penetrate and eliminate the hair follicles. It targets the hair’s root and that’s also what is pulled out when waxing or plucking.

What areas of my body can I laser?

Our lasers can remove unwanted hair from your face, legs, arms, back, bikini line, underarms and several other locations where you no longer want to shave or wax anymore.  During the month following the procedure, you will see your hair begin to fall out. We do suggest you avoid sun exposure for six weeks after each session to avoid any possible skin color changes.
