As we get older, our bodies begin to age. Nowhere is this more obvious than on our face. The natural decrease in the production of collagen and elastin means that the skin loses a great deal of its youthful volume and elasticity. This enables it to accumulate fine lines, wrinkles, and folds that make us look older, sometimes significantly older than we really are. Unsurprisingly, these changes can have a profound effect on the way that we feel about our appearance. Since it is very difficult to hide signs of facial aging, even with cosmetics, many of us become anxious or embarrassed about our appearance. We want to look as young as we feel.
Many people are eager to embrace cosmetic procedures to address the signs of aging and improve their appearance, but understandably have reservations about going under the knife. Fortunately, there are alternative treatments that deliver effective results without the need for an invasive process with a significant recovery period. “Injectables” is the name given to a highly popular group of non-invasive cosmetic treatments designed to control the signs of aging and there are two, new injectables that are proving particularly popular at the moment. These are known as Revanesse Versa and Jeuveau.
What are injectables and how do they work?
There are primarily two different types of injectable. The first type of injectable treatment involves neurotoxins, which relax the muscles in the face so that they cannot contract and enable the skin to wrinkle. The second injectable treatment involves dermal fillers which work by restoring the skin so that it is revolumized and stretched more tightly, eliminating lines and wrinkles and giving the patient a fuller, more youthful and radiant appearance.
Injectables are usually carried out with an ultra-fine needle which causes minimal discomfort. However, a topical anesthetic can be provided if required. In nearly all cases there is no downtime required and you can return to your usual activities immediately. Exactly how long the results last will depend on the injectable you choose and your individual response to it.
About Revanesse Versa
Revanesse Versa is a dermal filler that has the base ingredient hyaluronic acid, or HA for short. HA fillers are the most popular variety of this treatment since it is not only effective but extremely safe. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally-occurring substance that is already present in our bodies that helps to keep our skin moist and supple. However, our bodies produce less of it as we age, causing the skin to dry out and lose volume.
Revanesse Versa is normally injected into the skin around the nasolabial folds, which are more commonly known as ‘smile lines’ or ‘laughter lines’ since they appear when you perform either action. They run from each side of the nose to the corners of the mouth. As you get older, these can become more defined, deep grooves that make us look older than we really are.
Studies have found that Revanesse Versa can create a significant reduction in the appearance of nasolabial holds that can last for up to 12 months. Other benefits include less swelling and a superior safety profile when compared to other similar products.
About Jeuveau
Jeuveau is a new injectable that is structurally similar to Botox since it too is derived from a neurotoxin and is the first new brand of neurotoxin to enter the U.S. market in the last decade. It works in the same way as Botox, relaxing the muscles in the forehead and around the eyes so that they cannot contract when you make facial expressions, preventing the skin from wrinkling. This eliminates the appearance of frown lines that run horizontally on the forehead, the lines around the eyes commonly referred to as “crow’s feet”, and the deeper frown lines between the eyebrows known as the glabellar lines.
After your Jeuveau treatment, you can expect to see an improvement in the appearance of your lines and wrinkles as soon as two to three days later. In most instances, the results will last up to six months before further treatments are required. Jeuveau is also FDA approved with a favorable safety profile.
